Fran Kormann – Founder and Resource Advisor
River Creek Aging in Place Network
After a 40-year career as a Realtor, Fran Kormann retired in 2018 and quickly discovered a new passion—serving Loudoun County seniors through volunteer leadership and community outreach.
Fran joined the Loudoun County Area Agency on Aging (AAA) Community Ambassador Program, where she received extensive training on senior services and resources available to Loudoun residents. The program provided the knowledge, leadership, and confidence needed to help seniors and families connect with the right support systems. Fran strongly believes effective volunteering begins with proper training, education, compassion, and understanding the key role of a volunteer.
Throughout her volunteer experiences, Fran learned an essential principle: volunteers are not caregivers. Volunteers do not provide medical advice or medical assistance. Their role is to observe, encourage, listen, and support seniors emotionally and socially while recognizing and celebrating what care receivers are still able to accomplish independently.
Using her lifelong people skills, Fran created “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” in the River Creek community, organizing meal support and assistance for residents recovering from surgery or facing temporary challenges. She also launched community Facebook groups to share important AAA information, volunteer opportunities, and resources for seniors.
Fran’s volunteer work expanded through Loudoun County meal delivery services, the Loudoun Medical Reserve Corps during COVID-19, the Loudoun Senior Center, and the Loudoun Volunteer Caregivers Money Management Program. Through these experiences, she saw firsthand how meaningful even small acts of support and social connection can be for seniors aging at home.
In 2026, after researching aging-in-place models, Fran founded the River Creek Aging in Place Network inspired by the national Village-to-Village movement. Her goal was simple: create a supportive local network where seniors can remain independent, socially connected, informed, and supported by their neighbors.
The River Creek Aging in Place Network officially launched on May 1, 2026, and quickly grew through word of mouth and community enthusiasm, demonstrating the strong desire for connection, trusted information, and neighbor-to-neighbor support in River Creek.
